A major upset has been reported in AJK polls, as Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan losing his ancestral seat in Bagh district.
MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has retained his seat in the third phase of the AJK elections, according to unofficial and unverified results.
Polling was held on four seats in Bagh and Haveli districts. In LA-17 Bagh-4, Rathore, the Pakistan Peoples Party candidate and sitting prime minister, secured 33,252 votes to win the seat.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Chaudhry Mohsin Aziz finished second with 31,812 votes.
Meanwhile, a major upset has been reported in the third phase of Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, with Muslim Conference chief Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan losing his ancestral seat in Bagh district.
Polling was held Monday on four seats in Bagh and Haveli districts, with counting continuing and unofficial results emerging.
According to unofficial and unverified results from all polling stations in LA-14 Bagh, Jammu and Kashmir Dast-o-Bazu Party candidate Sardar Sajid Iqbal defeated Attique Khan by a significant margin.
Sajid Iqbal secured 40,702 votes, while Attique Khan received 19,542 votes, giving the winning candidate more than twice as many votes as his rival.
The seat is considered the ancestral constituency of Attique Khan, whose father, former AJK president Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, also won the seat several times.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Zia Qamar was leading in LA-15, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Sardar Mir Akbar Khan was ahead in LA-16.
