Spokane fire: Old Trail Fire triggers level 3 evacuations near Airway Heights

The Old Trail Fire has triggered level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders near Airway Heights, Washington, after the wildfire spread rapidly and crossed a river.

According to KXLY News, residents living between Newkirk Road to the north, Trails to the south, Dowdy to the east and Westwood to the west have been told to leave immediately.

The station also reported that the fire has crossed the river, prompting immediate evacuation orders for Riverside State Park and the Dwight Merkle Sports Complex.

The wildfire, also referred to as the Euclid Fire, began at around midday on Saturday, 1 August, near Old Trails Road and West Euclid Road.

Emergency crews, including paramedics, four firefighting aircraft and one helicopter, are responding to the blaze, according to KXLY News.

As a precaution, Avista has cut power to more than 7,000 customers through a Public Safety Power Shutoff to reduce the risk of further fire danger.

Authorities are urging residents in evacuation zones to leave immediately and follow official updates as firefighters continue working to contain the blaze.

Officials have also directed the public to use the Spokane County evacuation map and Avista’s outage map for the latest information on evacuation orders and power outages.
