15 martyred, 12 militants killed in Tank check post attack: ISPR

The ISPR said the attackers later rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post.

RAWALPINDI: Fifteen people, including 12 military personnel, two policemen and a government official, were martyred after militants attacked a joint police check post in Tank district, while security forces killed 12 assailants during the ensuing operation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack took place on the night of July 23-24, when Khwarij belonging to Indian-sponsored, Fitna Al Khwarij attempted to breach the security of the joint check post. Security forces responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and killing 12 militants as they attempted to flee.

The ISPR said the attackers later rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post.

The powerful blast caused extensive damage to the facility and resulted in the martyrdom of 12 military personnel, two police officers, and one government official from the Forest Department.

The military said a sanitization operation is underway to clear the area of any remaining militants. It added that security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue counterterrorism operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.

The ISPR reiterated the country’s resolve to eliminate militancy, saying the sacrifices of the fallen personnel reinforce Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding national security and eradicating foreign-sponsored terrorism.
