King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to meet Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.
LONDON: King Charles III and Queen Camilla are scheduled to make a state visit to Spain in 2027, marking the first official British state visit to the country in nearly four decades, according to reports.
The trip will be the first state visit by a British monarch to Spain since 1988, when the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. The dates for the 2027 visit have not yet been announced.
During the visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to meet Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.
It remains unclear whether Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia will participate in official events, though they could attend a state banquet if one is held.
The visit is expected to reinforce diplomatic and cultural ties between the United Kingdom and Spain. The two countries maintain close economic and people-to-people links, with an estimated 400,000 British nationals living in Spain.
The Spanish royal family has maintained regular engagement with the British monarchy in recent years. King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 and previously made a state visit to the United Kingdom in 2017, where they were welcomed with full ceremonial honors and attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace.

The planned visit follows recent reports that King Charles and Queen Camilla reunited with Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, during their time in the United Kingdom.
