Ryan Gosling’s infamous ‘La La Land’ hand gets fixed in updated poster for 10th anniversary re-release

La La Land is returning to cinemas to mark its 10th anniversary, with the film’s promotional artwork receiving a subtle update by changing Ryan Gosling’s pose on the iconic poster.

The artwork still features Gosling and co-star Emma Stone dancing together in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, but his hand now points upwards to mirror Stone’s pose instead of the bent wrist on the original poster.
The change follows comments Gosling made in a 2024 interview with The Wall Street Journal, where he admitted he had long regretted the way he held his hand during the promotional photoshoot.
“I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie,” he said. “It just killed the energy that way. I call it La La Hand.”
The film’s official Instagram account acknowledged the alteration with a light-hearted caption accompanying the updated artwork, writing, “A minor adjustment.”
Directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land was released in 2016 and starred Gosling and Stone as aspiring artists who fall in love while pursuing their careers in Los Angeles. The musical became both a critical and commercial success, earning more than 500 million dollars at the global box office.
The film also featured prominently at the 2017 Academy Awards, where it was mistakenly announced as the winner of Best Picture before the award was correctly presented to Moonlight.
Emma Stone won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance, while Chazelle received the Best Director award.
La La Land will return to US cinemas on August 16, followed by a UK re-release on August 28, giving audiences another opportunity to see the award-winning musical on the big screen with its newly updated promotional artwork.
