Many everyday food products depend on crops grown in regions where forests have historically been cleared for agriculture including Cocoa, Coffee, Palm oil, Soy, Cattle products, Nuts and spices etc.

For quoting an example, one of the world’s largest suppliers of cocoa, coffee, nuts, and spices, Olam Food Ingredients (ofi) faces a massive challenge monitoring a supply chain that spans over a million smallholder farmers across ecologically sensitive regions.
To prove an ingredient didn’t come from deforested land, companies must know the exact coordinates of where it was grown.
Such food Platforms utilize tokenization to create a “digital twin” of a raw ingredient (like a batch of cocoa beans or palm oil) at the farm gate.
This digital certificate attaches the geographic boundary data to the ingredient, ensuring it remains verifiable even when mixed with other batches during shipping and processing.

Satellite Monitoring:
The system works as advanced AI algorithms continuously scan satellite imagery to cross-reference farm boundaries against tree canopy changes.
Satellites track changes in forest cover and help identify whether farmland expansion is occurring in forested areas while companies map farms, suppliers, and production locations to understand where ingredients originate.
Before an ingredient enters critical markets, cloud systems automatically aggregate the farm’s legal documentation, geolocation history, and satellite hazard scores to generate an automated Due Diligence Statement (DDS).
Supply-chain mapping:
If a supplier’s mapped boundary overlaps with a pocket of fresh tree loss or forest degradation, the system triggers an automated compliance alert and freezes the supplier’s capability to sell into the network.
This algorithmic paperwork ensures compliance without stalling global shipping lanes.
