RAWALPINDI:

A court in Rawalpindi on Tuesday sentenced Farrukh Khokhar to life imprisonment in the murder case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Majid Satti, nearly four years after the killing.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afshan Ejaz Safi announced the verdict. Shortly before the judgment was delivered, court staff directed that Khokhar be taken into custody to prevent any attempt to flee. He was immediately handcuffed after the verdict and ordered to be transferred to Adiala Jail under tight security.

A heavy police contingent was deployed at the court complex, where a large crowd had gathered ahead of the verdict. The prosecution accused Khokhar and his co-accused of murdering Majid Satti on August 23 2022. The case was registered at Sadiqabad Police Station.

According to the prosecution, Satti was murdered on August 23 2022, after attempting to stop the alleged illegal occupation of a plot of land. He was ambushed by motorcycle-riding gunmen outside his business on Sixth Road in Rawalpindi, within the limits of Sadiqabad Police Station.

Police said the attackers opened fire as he left the premises. Although Satti was shot in the leg, he died from excessive blood loss while being taken to the hospital. Investigators later collected forensic evidence and CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

The case was registered at Sadiqabad Police Station.

Khokhar is the son of the late Taji Khokhar, a prominent political figure in Rawalpindi who was widely regarded as a close associate of President Asif Ali Zardari. Satti, the victim in the case, was affiliated with the PTI.
