Kate Gosselin speaks out as family tensions resurface online ahead of estranged son’s memoir

Collin Gosselin has alleged abuse while growing up and invited his mother to take a lie detector test
Kate Gosselin has responded publicly to questions about allegations made by her estranged son, Collin Gosselin, after he challenged her to take a lie detector test ahead of the release of his forthcoming memoir.
The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star addressed the issue in the comments section of a TikTok video that was originally posted to update followers about her rescue dog, Koda, and a minor foot injury.
The discussion quickly shifted to Collin, 22, who recently appeared on the Strange McKnights YouTube channel, where he repeated allegations about his upbringing and invited his mother to take a lie detector test.
His upcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, is due to be released in October.
Responding to one follower who suggested she sue Collin for defamation if his claims were false, Kate wrote, “I can’t bc I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I def would!”
When another commenter asked whether she would agree to a lie detector test, Kate replied simply, “Ha!”
She also addressed why she believes legal action would be difficult, writing, “Malice is one of the hardest things to prove. I tried :(.”
In another comment, she added, “The rules are different for ppl in the public eye. I consulted a high power LA attorney (you’ve definitely heard of him) years ago when other ppl were putting crazy stuff out there and that’s what he said. The courts don’t honor it if you’re in the public eye :(“
Collin recently alleged that his mother restrained him with zip ties and locked him in a basement during his childhood. He said, “But I’m not going to talk much on that because I’m putting all this in a tell-all that I’m writing right now and we will be going into detail on every single thing.”
He also said, “I would like to invite my mom to do a lie detector test. And that would be one of the questions, mom, if you’re listening to this, we would ask about the zip ties.”
The Gosselin family rose to fame on TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8, which documented the lives of Kate, Jon Gosselin and their eight children before the couple divorced in 2009. Collin’s memoir is scheduled for release on October 13.
