One of Meta’s most popular social media platforms, Instagram has finally introduced a feature that users have been requesting for years, the ability to rearrange photos on their profile grid through the mobile app.
The new feature allows users to customize the appearance of their profile by changing the order of their photos according to their preferences.
Users can move any post to a different position on their grid, regardless of when it was originally shared. Even photos posted years ago can now be placed at the top of the profile layout.
However, pinned posts will remain fixed at the top of the profile and cannot be rearranged using this feature.
Reports suggest that Instagram has been testing the photo grid rearrangement option since at least 2022, when reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered references to the hidden feature while examining the app’s code.
To use the feature, users should first ensure they have updated the Instagram app to the latest version. They can then go to their profile, long-press on a photo, and select the “Reorder Grid” option from the menu to easily change the position of their posts.
The update is expected to be welcomed by users who have spent years carefully building their profiles and want greater control over how their content is displayed. Many see it as a positive step towards giving users more flexibility and ownership over their online presence.
The photo grid rearrangement feature is now available worldwide for both iOS and Android users.
