DETROIT: Stellantis said Tuesday it is recalling more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and trucks globally due to a potential fire hazard and advised owners to park away from structures or other vehicles until a repair is completed.
The recall affects certain 2021-2025 model year Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles. The company said an electrical connection issue in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring could, in rare circumstances, cause combustible materials to overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.
Of the total recall, nearly 1.08 million vehicles are in the United States, 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico and approximately 125,000 in other markets, according to Stellantis.
The company said the fix will involve inspecting and, if necessary, repairing or replacing the wiring harness or the electric hydraulic power steering pump. Stellantis said it is working to accelerate remedy availability and expects to provide a fix no later than July.
Stellantis said it has received reports of one potential injury linked to the issue but no crashes or fatalities. Owners are urged to follow the parking guidance until the recall work is completed.
