Jamaat, TTAP alliance oppose call to join Abraham Accords

ISLAMABAD: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and the Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) have voiced strong objections to President Donald Trump’s demand that Pakistan join the Abraham Accords as part of peace efforts with Iran.
In a statement posted on X, JI Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman described the accords as a “document of surrender”, forcing Muslim countries to accept Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land.
He wrote that the Pakistani nation would never accept any move to grant legitimacy to Israel’s illegal occupation.
US President Donald Trump was once again pressuring Muslim countries after previously recognising occupied Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, he wrote, and warned that any attempt to recognise Israeli control over Jerusalem would be rejected by the nation.
He urged Muslim rulers to represent sentiments of the Muslim Ummah instead of bowing to the American pressure.
The JI chief said the US administration, in collaboration with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had devastated Gaza and was now attempting to push Muslim states towards the Abraham Accords.
Reaffirming support for the Palestinian cause, the JI chief said the entire Palestine belongs to Palestinian people and that Jerusalem remains its rightful capital.
Calling Israel an illegitimate state, he said the JI position was in line with the vision of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah and it reflected the sentiments of the Pakistani people.
He called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to publicly reject President Trump’s illegitimate demand regarding the proposed accords.
TTAP demands clarity over Trump statement
Meanwhile, the PTI-led opposition alliance TTAP also rejected US President Donald Trump’s demand. “Linking peace efforts to such a demand is clear evidence of the Israeli agenda driving the ongoing conflict. The alliance strongly urges the government of Pakistan to adopt an immediate, unequivocal and transparent stance against any such proposal or pressure,” it said in a statement.
“This matter concerns not only the 240 million people of Pakistan but the entire Muslim world — particularly the oppressed Palestinian people who continue to suffer under Israeli brutality and genocide, with more than 80,000 martyrs having sacrificed their lives. The so-called ‘Abraham Accords’ are, in reality, a deceptive attempt to provide legal and political cover to Israeli aggression and expansionism,” it said.
“Regardless of the position adopted by other countries about the Abraham Accords, the alliance wishes to make it absolutely clear to the people of Pakistan that it will strongly oppose any attempt to recognise Israel under the guise of such agreements,” it said.
