Prominent Balochi writer Ghamkhwar shot dead in Nushki

Prominent Balochistan litterateur Professor Muhammad Khan, popularly known as Ghamkhwar Hayat, was killed in a targeted attack on Saturday on the outskirts of Nushki.

According to police, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on the professor near Killi Mengal while he was on his way to Quetta.

The attackers fled from the scene immediately after the incident. Police reached the spot following the report, took the body to Teaching Hospital Nushki and handed it over to the heirs after completing legal formalities. An investigation into the killing has been initiated.

Professor Hayat was serving as an assistant professor at Degree College Nushki. He was widely respected as a distinguished writer, poet, short story writer and translator in both the Brahui and Balochi languages.

He authored more than 15 books and translated several important literary works and articles into Balochi. A major portion of his poetry, however, was composed in the Brahui language.
