Eight Muslim countries call for protection of Al-Aqsa and holy sites

ISLAMABAD: Foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates have issued a joint statement strongly condemning Israeli actions in Jerusalem.

The joint communiqué denounced attempts by Israeli authorities to alter the historical and legal status of holy sites in Jerusalem, particularly condemning incursions by settlers and extremist ministers into Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The ministers described the raising of the Israeli flag within the Al-Aqsa compound as a provocative act, stressing that the entire 144-dunum area is exclusively a place of worship for Muslims.

They reaffirmed that the Jordanian Waqf Authority holds the sole legal authority over the administration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and called for preserving the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.

The statement also strongly condemned Israel’s approval of 30 new illegal settlements and criticized settler attacks on Palestinians, including incidents targeting schools and children in the West Bank.

The ministers reiterated that they do not recognize Israeli sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territories and rejected any attempts to annex these lands or displace Palestinian residents.

They warned that such actions undermine the prospects of a two-state solution and urged the international community to take immediate steps to stop Israel’s illegal measures.

The joint statement concluded with a renewed commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
