United States Department of Defence said that American forces have taken action against a vessel in the Indian Ocean that was providing support to Iran.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Pentagon said that US forces carried out an operation overnight against an unregistered ship named M/T Majestic X, which was transporting Iranian oil and was already under sanctions.
The statement added that the United States will continue global efforts to disrupt illegal networks and stop vessels that provide material support to Iran.
The Pentagon further said that international waters cannot be used as a shield by sanctioned entities, and that it will keep restricting the movement of illegal actors and their ships at sea.
This incident marks the second such operation by US forces in the Indian Ocean within the past three days targeting vessels carrying Iranian oil.
Overnight, U.S. forces carried out a maritime interdiction and right-of-visit boarding of the sanctioned stateless vessel M/T Majestic X transporting oil from Iran, in the Indian Ocean within the INDOPACOM area of responsibility.
