Patrick Muldoon, ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Starship Troopers’ actor, dies at 57

His most recent project, the crime thriller ‘Dirty Hands’, is scheduled for release later this year
Actor and producer Patrick Muldoon has died at the age of 57 following a heart attack on April 19.
Muldoon, widely recognised for his roles in television and film, rose to prominence through his portrayal of Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, a role he originated and played from 1992 to 1995, later returning between 2011 and 2012. He also appeared in the primetime drama Melrose Place as Richard Hart across multiple seasons.
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon attended the University of Southern California, where he played for the Trojans football team. He began his acting career during his university years, securing early roles in Who’s the Boss? and Saved By the Bell shortly after graduating in 1991.
On the big screen, he was known for his role as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 science fiction film Starship Troopers, directed by Paul Verhoeven. His most recent project, the crime thriller Dirty Hands, is scheduled for release later this year.
In addition to acting, Muldoon built a career as an executive producer, contributing to several films including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, The Dreadful, Riff Raff, and Kockroach, which is currently in production.
Outside of film and television, Muldoon was passionate about music and performed as the lead singer of The Sleeping Masses.
Friends described him as “endlessly generous — with his poetry, his humor, and his unmistakable presence,” adding that he “loved animals and people alike, gave unforgettable hugs, and possessed a rare quality of making others feel safe and seen.”
Known to loved ones as “Bobo”, Muldoon is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart, his parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr., his sister Shana and brother-in-law Ahmet Zappa, and their children.
