Dave Chappelle’s powerful tribute to Eddie Murphy on his ‘best’ day

Eddie Murphy is one of the few stars Dave Chappelle looks up to. So, it was not a surprise when he arrived on stage to honour the legendary comedian; he had to give his all.
Co-starring with him in The Nutty Professor, Chappelle heaps praise on his fellow comic, who received a prestigious gong at the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award.
“You were the hero that I worried about. Man, when you came up, it looked lonely. You were just by yourself. It was you, Michael Jackson, Rick James and Prince. All of whom are deceased, and somehow you survived it,” he shares.
However, Chappelle did not stop there.
The comedian shares he pitched Murphy an offer to join him for a potential reboot of his hit Chappelle show.
“In the midst of conversation, Eddie was the one that said, ‘Man, you should do a Chappelle’s Show movie or something like that.’ And I said, ‘Man, that’d be tough. That’s your brother.’”
“So Eddie, if I do it, man, do the Charlie parts and let’s f****** go,” Chappelle recalls, referring to Murphy’s late older brother Charlie, who had been a key part of the show.
