Out of the Further’ trailer debuts at CinemaCon ahead of August release

The trailer for the sixth instalment in the ‘Insidious’ franchise introduced a new cast, story and release date
Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth instalment in the long-running horror franchise, during its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
The film introduces a new storyline following the events of 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, shifting focus to a different family and a fresh supernatural threat.
Amelia Eve leads the cast as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in her childhood home. She discovers an unsettling ability to enter The Further, a purgatorial realm central to the series’ mythology.
As the trailer reveals, Gemma’s powers extend beyond travelling into the spirit world, allowing her to bring entities back into reality. This development escalates the danger, as malevolent forces begin to exploit her abilities.
“I assure you this movie is the most terrifying in the franchise,” Sony Pictures president of domestic distribution Adam Bergerman told attendees at the event.
The footage opens with a tense dental examination sequence before escalating into a series of supernatural encounters. “We were really happy until I started having these dreams,” Eve says in the trailer. “I’m scaring my daughter. I need someone to tell me how to stop this.”
The Insidious franchise remains a significant property for Sony, having generated more than $740 million globally. CinemaCon, hosted by Cinema United, runs from April 13 to 16 and serves as a key platform for studios to showcase upcoming releases to cinema operators.
Jacob Chase writes and directs the film, with Lin Shaye returning as Elise Rainier and Brandon Perea joining the cast. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 21.
