Meta is preparing to significantly enhance the user experience on WhatsApp Web with a major personalization update that will introduce nearly 50 new chat themes for desktop users.
The upcoming feature is designed to give users far greater control over the look and feel of their chats, allowing customization of both chat wallpapers and message bubble colours. This marks a major step toward aligning the web version with the more advanced customization already available on mobile.
The new theme collection is expected to offer a wide visual spectrum, ranging from soft pastel tones to bold, vibrant colour combinations. Users will also be able to choose multiple shades within the same colour family, giving them more creative freedom to personalize their chat experience.
Until now, WhatsApp Web has offered only basic appearance settings, limited mainly to light and dark modes, making it less flexible compared to the mobile application.
With this update, users will be able to access a dedicated theme section through the WhatsApp Web settings menu. The feature is expected to support both global themes applying changes across all chats and individual chat-level customization for a more personalized experience.
Importantly, these visual changes will remain strictly private, meaning only the user applying the theme will be able to see the customization, while other participants in the conversation will not be affected.
Although the feature has not yet been officially rolled out, it is expected to appear in upcoming beta updates. Meta has not confirmed a release date, but the rollout is anticipated in the near future.
