Erine Hudson reveals his biggest fear before recording punch scene in ‘Boston Blue’

Erine Hudson has opened up about why he denied taking help of a stunt double and insisted on doing a punch scene on her own in Boston Blue.
For those unaware, Hudson, who is playing the role of Reverend Edwin Peters in police procedural drama, got physical in the latest episode released on Friday, April 3.
The episode titled Beautiful Broken Things showed Peters, the Silver family patriarch, getting shot at during a community event. Later, he told his daughter, DA Mae Silver (played by Gloria Reuben), about his wife’s death before facing a life-or-death situation inside a church.
As the situation got worse, the Boston Police Department detective Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg) stepped in along with fellow BPD standout Lena Silver (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) to help Peters but he throws a punch to settle the situation.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine about the scene and how they recorded it, Hudson said, “It was funny. When they brought a stuntman in to throw the punch and I go, ‘Really, guys? I mean, I think I can throw a punch.'”
He went on to recall, “We weren’t sure. I’m like, ‘Really?’ I turned 80, but something about that number, it’s big. And it’s even big for me. Sometimes people assume that maybe you can’t do something, but I’ve always tried to stay ready, so to speak.”
Despite showing his acting skills in famous shows, the 80-year-old American actor “always hoped for the role to come along” and left everyone in awe when he “really got a chance to show.”
The Ghostbusters star admitted, “I was always afraid of not being prepared and not being in shape to do it. So I’ve never allowed myself to get too far out of shape or too heavy.”
“And I’ve never been lost. I’ve never been too heavy. I’ve maintained my weight for all these years because I think it is my responsibility as an actor to bring…. This is my instrument, so to speak,” Erine Hudson stated.
It is pertinent to mention that Boston Blue, which started premiering on October 17, 2025, drops new episodes every Friday on CBS.
