HEC introduces four-day university week under austerity drive

Under the new policy, universities will remain closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays nationwide.

ISLAMABAD: In a move aimed at promoting austerity, the government has decided to reduce the working days of universities across the country to four days a week, according to an official notification issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Under the new policy, universities will remain closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays nationwide. The decision has also been extended to public schools, where physical classes will not be held on these three days.

However, the notification states that universities and government educational institutions may conduct online classes on Fridays to ensure continuity of academic activities.

The Ministry of Education has implemented the directive for all institutions operating under the HEC and the Federal Board, marking a significant shift in the academic schedule as part of cost-cutting measures.
