US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s new regime has formally requested a ceasefire with the United States.
In a statement on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the Iranian leadership is “less extreme and more intelligent than the previous administration” and that the US would consider the ceasefire request.
He added that any consideration would come only after the Strait of Hormuz is fully open and secure, and until then, US attacks will continue, warning that Iran could be “pushed back to the Stone Age.”
In an interview with a British news agency, Trump stated that the US has already achieved regime change in Iran, adding that US forces will leave the country soon but did not provide a specific timeline. He noted that some targets remain in Iran, and the US may return to strike them if necessary.
Trump also addressed Iran’s nuclear ambitions, asserting that Iran will neither acquire nor seek nuclear weapons. He emphasized that the US is monitoring Iran’s nuclear materials via satellite surveillance.
On NATO, Trump indicated dissatisfaction, saying he plans to address the alliance in an upcoming speech and is considering withdrawing the US from NATO.
Previously, Trump had announced plans to exit the Iran conflict within two to three weeks, stating that while regime change occurred, the primary objective of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons had been achieved.
