Netflix increases subscription rates across all plans

Netflix has increased the prices of all its subscription plans in the United States as the company continues to expand into new types of content such as video podcasts and live sports.

According to its website, the price of the ad-supported plan has gone up to $8.99 per month from $7.99. The standard plan has also become more expensive, rising by $2 and now costing $19.99 per month. The premium plan price has increased as well and is now $26.99 per month instead of $24.99. The company has also raised the cost of adding an extra member, which will now cost $7.99 for ad-supported plans and $9.99 for ad-free plans.

Netflix currently has more than 325 million subscribers. The company had already removed its cheapest ad-free plan, known as the basic plan, in 2023. After that, users were left with the standard plan, the premium plan, and the standard plan with ads.

With the new prices, analysts from TD Cowen believe the company’s average revenue per subscriber in the US and Canada will increase by about 6 percent in 2026. The company last increased its prices earlier last year.

Netflix also reported revenue of $12.1 billion for the October to December period, which was slightly higher than what analysts had expected. In February, the company also decided not to take part in the bidding process for Warner Bros’ streaming and studio assets, which later allowed Paramount Skydance to move forward with a $110 billion deal to buy the famous Hollywood studio.
