ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar and Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik held a joint press conference, warning that global oil prices could rise further in the coming days and emphasizing the need for a coordinated plan for energy conservation.
Ali Pervaiz Malik highlighted regional tensions and explained that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed his team to adopt austerity measures, including cuts in official perks.
He added that due to these measures, petrol and diesel prices have been kept unchanged this week, taking into account the upcoming Eid celebrations.
The minister stressed that both the government and the public must play a significant role in saving energy. He further noted that consultations with provincial governments will continue to strengthen the system and ensure support for vulnerable populations.
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar explained that petroleum product prices are determined by the global market, and highlighted that this week increases of PKR 150 per litre for petrol and PKR 250 per litre for diesel were avoided.
He warned that oil prices could rise further globally, urging collective action to implement a long-term conservation strategy.
