Afghan mortar fire in border village martyr four innocent civilians

At least four civilians were killed after mortar shells fired from across the border landed in a residential area of Bajaur District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to local and security sources.

The incident occurred in the Lati (Tari Pasha) area of Salarzai tehsil near the Pakistan–Afghanistan border. Local sources said the shelling was carried out from the Afghan side, and one of the mortar shells hit a house in the civilian area.

As a result of the attack, four people present in the house were killed on the spot. Sources said the victims, identified as Sajid, Ayaz, Riaz, and Muaz, were brothers.

Security sources stated that the mortar shells were allegedly fired by Afghan forces and landed in the border areas of Salarzai and nearby localities in Bajaur.

Another person was seriously injured in the attack and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, hospital sources confirmed.

Sources added that tensions have risen among residents of Bajaur following the cross-border attack. Security officials said Pakistan’s armed forces are responding strongly to what they described as cowardly attacks by Afghan Taliban forces.
