
Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has paid a powerful tribute to Pakistani women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, emphasizing that the strength, resilience, and determination of women remain a driving force behind the nation’s progress.
He stated that no society can truly advance or prosper without the meaningful participation and empowerment of women in all spheres of life.
The president said that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had also emphasized the importance of women’s equal participation for national development.
He added that the leadership of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto remains a shining example of the determination and capability of Pakistani women.
President Zardari noted that women in Pakistan are playing a significant role in various sectors, and their contributions from the cockpit to parliament are commendable.
He further said that the struggle of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and Begum Nusrat Bhutto continues to inspire women across the country.
He stated that constitutional measures have ensured women’s representation in parliament and provincial assemblies. However, he stressed the need to eliminate discriminatory laws and harmful social practices.
According to the president, equal rights can help ensure women’s access to education, employment, and protection.
President Zardari also acknowledged the important role of rural women in agriculture and the economy, emphasizing that women must have equal access to credit, property, and job opportunities.
He said Pakistan remains committed to international agreements aimed at eliminating discrimination against women, while institutions such as the National Commission on the Status of Women are actively working to safeguard women’s rights.
The president added that initiatives like the Benazir Income Support Programme and women empowerment packages are important steps toward improving women’s economic conditions. He concluded by saying that the true measure of progress in any society lies in the real improvement in women’s lives.
