PM meets Sindh CM Murad, assures all-out help for uplift projects

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday assured full cooperation of the federal government for timely completion of infrastructure development projects in Sindh during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The chief minister briefed the prime minister in detail on the progress of ongoing development initiatives in the province, a Prime Minister’s Office news release said.

The Sindh CM and several other leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have been demanding that the federal government initiate and complete mega infrastructure development projects in the province especially the much-needed Sukkar-Hyderabad Motorway (SHM), the only missing portion of motorways networks from Karachi to Peshawar and northern areas of the country.

Recently, PPP Senator Waqar Mehdi had expressed concern over what he called deteriorated condition of major roads in Sindh due to negligence of the federal government.

He also demanded that the Centre immediately start the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway and long-delayed Jamshoro-Sehwan Indus Highway which was to be completed in 2017.

During the meeting with the Sindh CM, the prime minister said the federal government would extend all possible support to ensure early completion of projects in Sindh.

He directed the relevant ministries to maintain close coordination with the provincial government to accelerate public welfare initiatives.

The PM said that the PPP was an important ally of the federal government and emphasised that national development could be further accelerated through cooperation among coalition partners.

He noted that harmony and consultation among allied parties were essential for national stability and continuity of policies.

Appreciating Sindh’s leadership as a key partner in the coalition government, the prime minister said strong coordination between the federation and provinces would strengthen the democratic system and help address public issues effectively.

Matters relating to Sindh’s political situation and other issues of mutual interest also came under discussion.

Members of the federal cabinet Ishaq Dar, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Ahsan Iqbal and Rana Sanaullah were also present.
