A retired federal agent rehired by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement sparked alarm at a Minnesota hotel after his gun reportedly misfired, sending a bullet through a wall and into a neighbouring room.
The incident happened at a Hampton Inn in December last year, prompting police to rush to the scene. No one was injured.
According to a police report seen by the Sahan Journal and reported by Raw Story, 53-year-old Bradley Shaver had been handling his gun after changing the handle when the gun discharged.
The report said the bullet travelled through the pocket of Shaver’s sweatshirt, pierced a wall and hitting headboard of a bed in the next room, where a guest had recently checked in.
That guest, 32-year-old Aaron Wukawitz, said the stray bullet could ‘easily have killed him.’
Wukawitz told reporters he overheard the agent speaking on the phone moments after the incident.
“It just went off,” Shaver reportedly said in a panicked voice, adding that the bullet had gone through the neighbouring room.
Although Wukawitz said he believes the shooting was an accident, he suggested the agent may have had his finger on the trigger at the time.
