Prince Harry calls for nominations to celebrate inspiring children at WellChild Awards

Prince Harry has issued a heartfelt new message encouraging the public to nominate remarkable children and families for the upcoming WellChild Awards 2026.

As patron of the UK charity WellChild for nearly two decades, the Duke of Sussex highlighted how meaningful the annual ceremony is to him personally. Each year, he said, one of the moments he anticipates most is meeting the extraordinary children and families supported by the organization.

“These children and young people are living with complex medical needs — challenges that most of us can barely imagine,” he shared. “And yet time and again they meet life with positivity, courage, humour and an extraordinary joy for living.”

The Duke praised not only the young people being honoured, but also the siblings who often step into caregiving roles, as well as the parents, carers, nurses and professionals who dedicate themselves daily to providing constant support.

He described the WellChild Awards as a “truly special evening” that shines a light on bravery, resilience and compassion that often go unseen.

However, he stressed that the success of the awards depends on public participation.

“If you know a child who’s learned hospital routines before playground games, a sibling who quietly became a carer, or a parent or professional whose life revolves around constant selfless care, please nominate them,” he urged.

Concluding his message, Prince Harry thanked supporters of the charity and expressed hope that many will take part in recognizing these inspiring stories at the 2026 ceremony.

The WellChild Awards celebrate children and young people across the United Kingdom who demonstrate exceptional strength while facing serious illness, as well as those who support them every step of the way.
