Police continue search at Royal Lodge as Prince Andrew released under investigation

It’s been more than 350 years since the last royal arrest, that was in 1647.

Unmarked police vehicles have been seen arriving at Royal Lodge, the former residence of Prince Andrew, as authorities proceed with their ongoing investigation. The former prince was detained on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was subsequently released under investigation.

Images captured last night show Mountbatten-Windsor returning to Sandringham Estate, where he currently resides. The arrest was not disclosed to the King in advance, prompting a statement from Buckingham Palace in which the monarch emphasized that “the law must take its course.” The Prince and Princess of Wales are understood to support the King’s sentiments.

The investigation centers around a complaint concerning the alleged sharing of confidential material by Prince Andrew with Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender.

Andrew has previously denied any involvement in misconduct related to Epstein and has not commented publicly on the specific allegations, including the release of Epstein files in January, which the BBC has reported on.
