Euphoria star Eric Dane dies at 53 ahead of season 3

Eric Dane, known for his critically acclaimed portrayal of Cal Jacobs the on-screen father of Jacob Elordi’s character has passed away at the age of 53.

The actor had been bravely battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, since 2025. His family confirmed his passing on Thursday, February 20, in a deeply moving statement.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement read. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the centre of his world.”

The family also paid tribute to Dane’s advocacy work, noting how he used his platform to raise awareness and support for ALS research. “He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time,” they added.

Dane’s portrayal of Cal Jacobs, the complex and bisexual father of Jacob Elordi’s character, was widely praised for its nuance and depth. Despite his passing, he is expected to appear posthumously in Euphoria season 3, which is scheduled to premiere on HBO on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

The entertainment world and fans alike mourn the loss of a talented actor whose contributions both on and off-screen left a lasting impact.
