Another girl student dies by suicide

LAHORE: Another girl student opted for suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the hostel building of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University here on Tuesday night.
The incident sparked concern among the fellows of the student when they found her in a pool of blood and immediately alerted the college management.
The student (F) was a resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and living in the government hostel of the FJMU.
According to reports, the student suffered multiple head and neck injuries besides the bone fractures. She was rushed to the emergency ward of the attached Sir Ganga Ram Hospital from where she was shifted to the operating theatre after initial assessment.
According to FJMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, her condition was very critical. She underwent a major neuro surgery by a team of senior doctors, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Prof Gondal said the incident occurred at the FJMU girls hostel wherein she accidentally fell from the building. “We have constituted a medical board comprising senior doctors,” the FJMU VC said adding that he has also formed another five-member fact-finding panel of senior doctors and other experts to probe into the matter and submit a report within 24 hours.
Prof Bilquis Shabbir, the Dean Undergraduates, was made the head of the committee.
The VC said she may have fallen accidentally from the building. However, the eyewitnesses and some sources in the institute claimed that she jumped from the building in an attempt to end her life. Immediately, no reason for her extreme step was available.
Earlier, two students, including a female student of a private university in Raiwind, had also jumped from the building.
