40 years of Swimathon: Prince William applauds participants

In a touching and pride-filled moment, Prince William paid tribute to the remarkable legacy of Swimathon as the nationwide initiative marked its 40th anniversary, bringing together communities across the United Kingdom for a powerful cause.

On Saturday, Kensington Palace shared the Prince of Wales’ heartfelt message through the official Instagram account of William and Catherine Princess of Wales, celebrating the extraordinary impact the charity swim has created over four decades.

This year alone, more than 10,000 swimmers across the UK took part in the milestone event, raising essential funds for organisations such as Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie, both of which support life-saving medical research and compassionate care.

Marking the inspiring occasion, Prince William commended the spirit of unity and generosity that has defined Swimathon since its inception.

“Congratulations to @swimathon_uk on 40 years of bringing people together through swimming,” the Prince wrote.

“It is truly inspiring to see hundreds of thousands of people dive in and raise millions for charities that change lives,” he added, signing the message simply with “W.”

The Prince’s message reflects the royal couple’s ongoing commitment to championing initiatives that strengthen communities and uplift those in need.

The statement follows a recent surprise visit by Prince William and Princess Kate to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, where the couple met volunteer crews and recognised their unwavering dedication to protecting lives at sea.

Together, these moments highlight the Prince and Princess of Wales’ enduring mission to celebrate compassion, service, and the collective power of communities working towards a better future.
